Jacob & Co. has modernized the concept and set it in an intense universe. The 44-mm Oil Pump is a three-dimensional, animated depiction of an oil well with watchmaking parts. The rig itself is the star in Oil Pump. It bobs up and down and recreates the way an actual derrick works. Jacob & Co. staged a miniature oil well, complete with platform, barrel, piping and manifold. Oil Pump is a demonstration of horological expertise. A showcase of Jacob & Co.'s unique ability to craft meaningful narratives.

Caliber JCAM53 is one of only a handful of automaton movements ever made for wristwatches. This compact, verticalized movement packs a large number of components for a large narrative. Its aim is to be both a high watchmaking movement and a storyteller. Every complication has a part to play on the dial. Every function is part of a story. This is a unique set of requests for a movement, although a typical requirement from Jacob & Co. Developed from scratch, caliber JCAM53 is relatively thin, a sign of watchmaking maturity. It features a flying tourbillon that looks like no other. It's anchored above the dial. The automaton is a unique feature. Activated by the pusher located at 1:30 o'clock, it animates two typical derricks, known as horse heads. This 3D construction of extreme detail is a miniature scene in large format. All the elements are custom-crafted in solid rose gold and hand-finished. Making them look and feel like actual drill gear is a result of creative design, innovative thinking and a high level of craft. Jacob & Co.'s know-how shows in a unique manner in Oil Pump.

Oil Pump is powered by caliber JCAM53. A movement that has, like many in the Jacob & Co. catalog, zero equivalent in the current watchmaking world. It was developed especially for Oil Pump so that its complications could express Oil Pump's narrative.

THE FLYING DOUBLE-AXIS TOURBILLON

The flying tourbillon is a classic in Jacob & Co.'s watchmaking repertoire. Its location is unique, sharing the same space as the dial. It's hovering above the sunray-finished dials fitted with Roman Numerals.

THE DRILLING GEAR ELEMENTS

Oil Pump is a stage where the entire oil extraction narrative is being told. Bent and straight pipes connect the functional elements, along with a barrel with its flammable warning sticker. A red manifold is located upstream from a pressure gauge, which is really the power reserve indicator. All these decorative parts are hand-finished and made of solid gold.

THE DERRICK AUTOMATON

After the pusher at 1:30 o'clock is activated, two horse-heads start moving up and down, powered by a single hidden axis. Their high level of detail hides the complex sequence of their movement. The entire pumping sequence of this unique automaton lasts a minimum 35 seconds.

THE POWER RESERVE

Operating under pressure is an everyday fact of oil drilling. This pressure is symbolized by a gauge inserted in the pipeline. It is in reality caliber JCAM53's power reserve indicator. The updated architecture of this movement allows for 72 hours of operation before the next wind.
