GOD OF TIME

Jacob & Co. is a dedicated believer in the unique powers of the tourbillon, with over 32 calibers developed with this complication. To celebrate his 60th birthday, Jacob Arabo decided to shatter a record, and make God of Time the fastest tourbillon ever. When most others spin once every minute, God of Time's makes one revolution every 4 seconds. This achievement, the utmost level of time mastering, is placed under the commanding presence of Chronos, the god of time eternal in Greek mythology. He watches over the 4-second tourbillon, watching over his preferred child. He is housed in a 44.5-mm case shaped like an Ionian Greek column. God of Time's case, dial and overall architecture are inspired by ancient Greek temples. Chronos, almost in the flesh, is represented with vivid realism with a crisp, three-dimension, hand-made rose gold applique on the dial.

From a creative concept to design inspiration. To the first stroke of a pencil through hundreds of iterations. A timepiece like no other comes to life. God of Time's tourbillon spins once every 4 seconds, 15 times faster than the norm.

Jacob & Co. has developed caliber JCAM60 from a blank page, specifically to shatter the record of the fastest tourbillon. Its architecture is entirely aimed at increasing the tourbillon's speed while reducing energy consumption through extreme weight reduction. Made of titanium, the entire carriage weighs a mere 0.27 grams, a feat given its 12-mm diameter and embedded constant force. The energy consumption of a tourbillon is a function of its speed and weight. Every time the speed doubles, the force requirement quadruples. And this carriage is 15 times faster than the classic 60-second one. Feeding this one-of-a-kind invention requires a massive amount of energy. It's stored in two sets of two stacked barrels, whose force is harnessed by a constant force device. Achieving balance between the tourbillon's speed and a weekend-proof power reserve of 60 hours required of Jacob & Co.'s tourbillon expertise. Building on the experience provided by over 30 different tourbillon movements, Caliber JCAM60 managed the impossible.

THE FOUR SECOND TOURBILLON

God of Time's tourbillon is faster than any other before. Instead of one rotation every 60 seconds, like 99.5% of tourbillon movements, God of Time shatters conventions and achieves one rotation every 4 seconds. That is 15 times faster than the norm, and also a world record for a wristwatch. The upper tourbillon bridge is made of sapphire crystal and hides nothing of what's underneath.

THE CHRONOS DIAL APPLIQUE

Chronos, the proverbial god of time, is represented like a Greek statue, a large and crisp sculpture on the dial. The 18K rose gold figure is shaped to the highest degree of execution. Over the course of several days, it's engraved, polished, burnished and finished with a patina that gives Chronos an astounding level of detail. Hair, beard, toga, arms, muscles, tendons, fingernails, he radiates with unique energy and powerful expression. At 37 mm in length and 1.5 mm in height at its thickest, this applique is one of the most impressive Métiers d'Art artifacts ever.

WINDING AND SETTING

God of Time’s crown is dedicated exclusively to time setting and positioned on the left-hand side of the case, while the right-hand side is occupied by the tourbillon. When worn, only the high-speed carriage emerges from beneath the cuff, remaining in constant motion. Movement winding is operated through a flip-bow crown integrated into the caseback.

God of Time is themed and shaped after the design language of Greek mythology, and Jacob & Co.'s language of record-breaking. The Ionic column volutes case, the Chronos sculpture and the unreal speed of its tourbillon puts God of Time among the pantheon of complications.
