DESIGN INSPIRATION
From a creative concept to design inspiration. To the first stroke of a pencil through hundreds of iterations. A timepiece like no other comes to life. As functional as an observatory. Powered by an impressive caliber. Astronomia Sky is high watchmaking taking to the night sky.

THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
395 components. One full movement rotation in 20 minutes. Triple-axis gravitational tourbillon. Sidereal year display with sky chart indication. Spinning diamond moon. Orbital dial. Central day/night indication. 60-hour power reserve.

THE COMPLICATIONS & FEATURES
IofVIII
THE ROTATING PLATFORM
The most visually striking feature of Astronomia Sky is its structure. From the blued titanium back-dial emerges a vertical platform. It revolves on its own axis in 20 minutes. Its constant motion powers all the movement's functions and indications.

THE DAY / NIGHT EARTH
Sitting on top of the rotating platform, an Earth globe is half covered with a cache. Its position shows whether a part of our planet is lit by sunlight. It revolves in 24 hours, providing a universal day/night indication.

THE ORBITAL SECONDS
One of the rotating platform’s arms holds a unique small seconds. The off-centered satellite is shaped like a spacecraft. It rotates in one minute on its horizontal axis. Its end is a conical ring, marked from 0 to 60.

THE TRIPLE-AXIS GRAVITATIONAL TOURBILLON
At the end of one satellite arm hangs a double-axis tourbillon. It's held inside an openworked carriage. It revolves on two axes, one in 60 seconds, the other in 5 minutes. Since it travels along with the central platform, this adds a third axis, with a 20 minute rotation period.

THE ORBITAL DIAL
At the end of another satellite arm lies the hour and minute dial. The platform rotation would normally shift the numbers and make their reading impossible. Jacob & Co. has fitted the dial with a patented differential system. It spins in the opposite direction of the platform, at the same speed. As a result, it remains constantly upright and readable.

THE DIAMOND MOON
Astronomia Sky features a moon. That's the planet chosen to represent the high jewelry part of Jacob & Co.'s identity. This moon is actually a 1 ct. white diamond. Carved from a large rough of extremely high quality, it receives the exclusive, spherical, 288-facet, Jacob-cut. This moon spins on its own axis in 60 seconds.

THE SKY CHART
As the backplate of Astronomia Sky rotates once a sidereal year, it’s capable of following the changes in the sky vault. An oval indicator shows the portion of the sky visible at night with the Zodiac constellations etched in gold on the blue titanium surface.

THE SIDEREAL MONTH DISPLAY
The backplate separating the platform from the rest of the movement is functional. It's a rotating base made of blued titanium. It completes one revolution in 365.25 days, which is a sidereal year. It displays the month on the lower part of the caseband.
