ASTRONOMIA FOUR-AXIS TOURBILLON

I

Celestial bodies and space exploration have long driven Jacob Arabo's creativity. In 2014, he translated his intimate passion into an ambitious timepiece concept. Astronomia is an unheard-of translation of astrophysics into watchmaking form. It is a wrist-sized model of a planetary system and its constant motion.  From the outset, Astronomia was designed to rotate as fast and spectacularly as possible. The movement's rotation speed started at 20 minutes per spin. It was brought down to 10, then 5, and now Astronomia Four-Axis Tourbillon makes a whole rotation in just 1 minute. And to the three axes of the original Astronomia Revolution, it adds one more axis, becoming the first ever four-axis tourbillon. The case measures 47 mm in diameter. It's built around curved panes of sapphire glass, held together by precious metal. Underneath the spinning carousel lies a structure of mirror-polished rose gold elements. Each shape is cut like a gem with their culet facing up. The jagged expanse captures light, reshapes it and sends it back.

From a creative concept to design inspiration. To the first stroke of a pencil through hundreds of iterations. A timepiece like no other comes to life. Astronomia Four-Axis Tourbillon breaks the final frontier of watchmaking.

Caliber JCAM54 is the only movement of its kind. Built vertically, a two-arm carousel emerges from its center. It spins to the tune of one rotation every 60 seconds. It acts like a seconds hand, and as the tourbillon's first rotation axis. At the end of an arm is a flying triple-axis tourbillon. Flying because it has a single point of attachment, suspending it in mid-air. Inside the tourbillon carriage, the escapement is put into rotation by three sets of gears. The first one spins in 60 seconds, the second one in 18 seconds and the last one in 15 seconds. This is not just an unprecedented number of axes, but exceptionally high speeds as well.

Astronomia Four-Axis Tourbillon is a record-breaker and a world first. It builds up on years of experience, research and development and relentless effort.
