Caviar Tourbillon Baguette Rubies

Story

The Caviar Flying Tourbillon collection embodies Jacob & Co.'s drive to stop at nothing in its quest to create masterpieces of incomparable beauty. Jacob & Co. is one of the few companies in the entire industry that has the legitimacy and true expertise to combine high jewelry and high watchmaking.

In the Caviar Flying Tourbillon Collection, Jacob & Co., as both watchmaker and jeweler, combines these two worlds with effortless ease, giving birth to luxurious, priceless timepieces.

These veritable works of watchmaking art feature a sophisticated tourbillon movement with a stunning case and dial adorned with precious and rare diamonds, sapphires, or rubies in colors inspired by the rich, lustrous translucence of the finest caviar. The precious gemstones are invisibly set after an arduous and lengthy process to source and select the perfect stones to match each other in color and cut.

FLYING TOURBILLON MOVEMENT

Until the creation of the exclusive JCBM05 caliber, no movement could have hoped to keep pace with the intense brilliance of the Caviar's exterior. Matching the intricate gem-setting with the beautiful complication of a one-minute flying tourbillon, the JCBM05 has bridges specifically designed to be able to accommodate gem setting.

The tourbillon was designed to offset the effect of gravity on a watch movement. The tourbillon used in the Caviar is the flying variety, meaning that it is supported on only one side, which is far more difficult than a traditional tourbillon. The tourbillon has long been considered the king of complications, with its spinning and turning movement. Only the best companies can accomplish this feat of high watchmaking.

The hand-wound caliber, which may be further admired through a sapphire crystal caseback, with its plates adorned with white diamonds, complements its one-minute flying tourbillon with a titanium balance, anti-shock system and 100-hour power reserve. Composed of 169 parts, the movement drives a two-hand dial display at a frequency of 21,600vph.

GEM SETTING

Having started out as a jewelry company, Jacob & Co. has been working in the gemstone trade for more than thirty years. As a result, the brand's gem experts know where to find the best gemstones.

With unique pieces like the Caviar Flying Tourbillon Ruby Red, matching the stones is incredibly important. It can take up to three years to find the right stones, with exactly the right matching colors.

All the 424 baguette-cut matching rubies in the Caviar Flying Tourbillon Ruby Red are unheated, which is rare in today's world. Heating rubies to remove traces of bluishness, thereby enhancing the red color, is an age-old practice. The technique is so prevalent today that unheated rubies now fetch a considerable premium due to their rarity.

The ruby is July's birthstone and has long been considered the king of precious stones. In the hierarchy of the trade, no gem commands more money, earns as much respect or spawns as many imitations. The fabled beauty of unheated rubies has entranced history's biggest collectors, from emperors to modern-day titans of industry.

Natural unheated specimens with a deep red hue are more sought after than diamonds — and are exponentially more difficult to find.

When it comes to setting, Jacob & Co. works with the very best in the world. The rubies in this timepiece are invisibly set, side by side, which hides the metalwork underneath. The rubies are set into the gold from underneath, making the surface smooth and the stones appear to be floating. The result is mesmerizing and magical.

One look at the Caviar Flying Tourbillon Ruby Red with its unheated "pigeon's blood" rubies and you know how rare and special it is.

CASE

The 47mm 18K rose gold case, dial, and lugs are invisibly set with 424 highest-quality pigeon's blood red rubies. The flying tourbillon is visible in an aperture at six o'clock, and the white diamond-set rear of the manual winding movement is visible through the exhibition case back.

The Jacob & Co. Caviar Flying Tourbillon is a tour de force in both high jewelry and high watchmaking, taking both to an extreme never seen before.
