Astronomia Solar Black DLC Planets

a close up of a bowl

The Astronomia is the embodiment of 21st century ultra-high-end watchmaking and a globally recognized symbol of Jacob & Co watchmaking expertise. A world-first both in the boldness of its unprecedented concept and its entirely mechanical construction, the Astronomia has gone beyond impressive horological achievements to becoming an outstanding multidisciplinary engineering accomplishment.

The Astronomia Solar takes the celestial idea of the Astronomia timepiece and puts it into warp speed. It displays the planets of our Solar System as half spheres of semi-precious stones on a starry Aventurine base that turns counterclockwise every ten minutes. Above is the iconic Astronomia vertical movement that rotates clockwise every 10 minutes. In addition to its three arms carrying Jacob & Co. exclusive complications, it also features three colored gems, each perfect spheres exhibiting the exclusive Jacob Cut®. On top of the movement is a gem featuring the Jacob Cut®.

Astronomia Solar Planets Black DLC presents color combinations and a planetary scene never seen before making for a beautifully artistic, highly refined and fully mechanical recreation of our solar system.

The Exclusive JCAM19 hand wound caliber of the Astronomia Solar Planets Black DLC stands out from an exquisite range of Astronomia calibers by being the most compact iteration of the original, allowing for yet smaller case dimensions as well as redesigned proportions. Composed of 444 components, all finished to the highest standards of haute horlogerie, the Astronomia Solar Planets Black DLC features a three-arm rotating platform that carries a one-minute flying tourbillon, the differential-driven, self-leveling time display, and a rose gold and blue lacquered globe of Earth. This platform with its complications makes a full rotation every 10 minutes while the black titanium base with constellations rotates counterclockwise rotation in 10 minutes.

The tourbillon was originally invented to provide improved timekeeping performance for a pocket watch. The Astronomia Tourbillon brings this 200-plus-year-old complication to breathtaking levels of modern refinement and complexity.

The one-minute flying tourbillon of the Astronomia Solar Planets Black DLC features a delicately decorated cage that encapsulates the balance wheel, hairspring, escape wheel and a number of other crucially important components. This openworked, rose

gold cage not only features the J&Co logo in its architecture, but is only secured from underneath, allowing for an unobstructed and full view at the ultimate refinement of its detailing and operation. It is a constellation of superbly finished components that, when assembled and fine-tuned expertly, allowing the Astronomia caliber to keep accurate time throughout its 48-hour power reserve.

The case of the Astronomia Solar Planets Black DLC measures 44.5 millimeters in diameter and 21 millimeters thick between the highest point of its specially curved front sapphire crystal and the lowest point of its case. It is made of 18K white gold with a black DLC coating. It holds a single-piece sapphire crystal window around its periphery, allowing for unhindered viewing of the spectacular caliber, the rotating planets and the celestial base inside.

The time display subdial of the Astronomia Solar Planets Black DLC is driven through an infinitesimal differential system that allows it to always remain level and hence perfectly legible, even as the movement's three-arm platform performs its continuous 10-minute orbit. The Roman numerals on the titanium skeletonized dial are hand-engraved and filled with black lacquer, while the Jacob & Co. blued hands are finished by hand.
