As second time zone watches are notoriously hard to read, Jacob & Co. decided to offer the widest, clearest most prominent display imaginable with Epic SF24. The split-flap display is both a unique solution and the one offering the best readability. Once ubiquitous in train stations and airports, it relies on flipping printed blades in a precisely defined sequence. They pack a lot of written information in a tight space. This information is two-fold. One set of flaps is printed with the 24 reference cities of the main 24 time zones on earth. The other bears the 24 digits that tell time. Read together, they deliver clear, immediate information to anyone working across two distant areas. The Epic SF24 split-flap display module is unlike any other. It's not located on top of the base movement. It's a lateral and vertical extension. The sophisticated connection between the two is an exclusive Jacob & Co. development. It neatly separates two functional areas, while linking them mechanically through a special wheel, visible in an opening on the dial.

Caliber JCAA02 is an exclusive Jacob & Co. development. Its architecture, functionalities and performance are all unique. It's made up of one base movement and a second time zone display module, integrated in a single, self-winding caliber.

THE LOCAL TIME INDICATION

The crown located at 4 o'clock drives the central hours and minutes. This main display area is logically the local time. Changing it also changes the second time zone indication, located in the case extension, in order to synchronize both displays.

THE SECOND TIME ZONE WITH SPLIT-FLAP DISPLAY

The split-flap display is activated with a dedicated pusher, located on the side of the tubular case extension. Every push moves both flap displays. They show a reference city and the time it is in that city. Logically, this second time zone indication is a distant one, or it can be the wearer's home-time when they're away on a trip.

THE OFF-CENTERED SMALL SECONDS

Asymmetry is a sophisticated and demanding design guideline. The position of the split-flap display at the top of the Epic SF24 case called for more of that. The wheel driving the display module sits at 1 o'clock. The small seconds, halfway between 9 and 10 o'clock, has a unique situation. It's an integral part of the overall balance of Epic SF24.
